Behind the Scenes - Jordan Tyler-Love's Glory Days' ¡La Desperada!
¡La Desperada! is a 2024 portable picture book in song, written, directed and sung by Jordan Tyler-Love. It is the first official featurette in Jordan's rebranded company, Jordan Tyler-Love, and his fifth short film overall, after Brothschild's Journey (2017), Fazuki's Doom of Slush (2018), YockyWocky World (2018) and Hibernation (2022).It was released on November 8, 2024. Produced by: Gary Grief, Executive Produced by: Wallace Fennessy (Flycheese studio manager), Zachary Buchan and Emily Watson (Flycheese supervisors).
Summary: In a sunny, western field plantation (actually Driffield, East Yorkshire, various parts of Peak District, Derbyshire), two parents had welcomed and raised a baby daughter named Blanche.
When her parents were then sick, she took on the responsibility of running the ranch herself. She was then known to everyone in these parts as ¡La Desperada!
In her late twenties, she defeated a trio of bandits who wanted to steal a couple of cattle for their dinner. Later in the story, she is now a mature woman in her thirties, looking after the cattle ranch well, nurturing her dairy cattle, scaring off bandits, crooks and even predators.
In a town further down from the ranch (actually a map of Wirksworth, Derbyshire), the mayor gives some tourists a visit around the town, where the construction officers had planted a statue of the cowgirl heroine.
Towards the end of the story, she is resting outside her cottage with some of her cattle. Back at the town, visitors will want to know: who is the magnificent paragonic woman, and what will she do, or where she will go next? But that is another story.
How Jordan came up with the idea
Jordan had thought of the idea in June during the production wrap-up of Glory Days season two, whilst finishing the episode Ballad of Mystery. Thereafter, Jordan had listened to the theme song of The Legend of Lobo, multiple times.
Unfortunately, since Jordan had not thought things through, and because Jordan had to put both Lil' Hot Finster, and his first two comics on hold, he would need to then aim a little lower, on his own terms.
So, once production on season three began, Jordan went to his theatre group's meetup party on 19th July later this year. He knew improvising one step at a time would balance everything out during the summer.
Later in July, since Jordan had gone through a celebrity caricature phase, he was now in need of a female protagonist to add to his anthology music project. Although Zach and Emily once said that it is always good to try out new things once in a while, Jordan would still throw away his ideas, but the Wisdom Man made a better imaginative, yet optimistic mascot.
In order to look into the third series of Glory Days, Jordan had some time at home, watching episodes of Euphoria (centred around Suze Howard), Ted (centred around Susan Bennett), Waiting...(15-rated movie, scenes with Naomi), The Spectacular Spider-Man (Liz Allan) and a few episodes of Teamo Supremo (Skate Lad/Rope Girl). Jordan then thought, "Who do all these characters have in common?" How about Alanna Ubach.
Yes, that's right! Jordan had only started getting back into her projects since watching Ted. He hadn't seen her in anything, apart from Disney-Pixar's Coco, where she voiced Mama Imelda. Before that, Jordan last heard her voice in Pound Puppies, as Strudel.
But other than, since watching the Ted series for the last eight months, Jordan continued watching Liz Allan in between, Jordan had decided on a female protagonist of his own, ¡La Desperada!
Long story short, Jordan had been a secret fan of hers, since childhood, so as a homage to one of his acting heroes, he referenced a few characteristics from a few of her characters:
- Liz Allan's perky, but snobby personality. Especially towards the end of Spectacular Spider-Man, where she openly sobs.
- Suze Howard's relationship towards her blonde daughter Cassie (Sydney Sweeney, Euphoria).
- Susan Bennett's bubbly, yet caring personality (Ted).
- Naomi's attitude while doing her job. (Waiting...)
Add her design here------
For the cowgirl's attire, she is a light-skinned Latina-American woman, with dark brown hair, pink lip gloss, maple brown eyes, hazel eye shadow, slender body, 5 foot 3 inches, burnt umber kerchief, an olive cardigan, crimson trousers, light brown knee high leather boots. In the story she is 3 months old, then 21-years-old, and her current age 33 years old, so slightly when Alanna was voicing Liz Allan.
Pre-production
Once Jordan had put the photos from Driffield and parts of Derbyshire into position, he followed the script carefully, to avoid any mistakes. However, for the parents when they were ill, Jordan had literally designed them to practically be "vegetables", in which a scene where they were dying.
For the cattle, since Jordan had strict rules about reducing real-life animals, he would need to make sure the cattle, especially the dairy cows and udders, were a tad cartoony.
For the town, across the way, Jordan had to pose the market town centre of Wirksworth, in disguise to make sure no other real elements were used. The statue was then added in place of the end of the song.
Finally, for the fonts that were used: Dom Casual (as seen in later Looney Tunes cartoons, the closing credits for Animaniacs, various DiC shows, Donkey Kong Country, Noddy's Toyland Adventures, etc.), and Hotsy Totsy (famously used in Disney's Lloyd in Space, and the underrated comedy sitcom, Norm).
Meet the Characters
La Desperada -real name Blanche Imelsuze Ruesilo, is the main protagonist of the story. She is an attractive no-nonsene, yet kind woman. Her name is based on three of Alanna's characters: Mama Imelda, Susan Bennett, and Suze Howard. Her design is a cross between Ubach herself, and Liz Allan, albeit with more clearer features, to reduce copyright.
Her goal in life is to be the best western female heroine she can be, she is a very good listener, she can understand her animal friends, especially her horse, Ectore, and her cattle.
She has longed to keep her family ranch as historical and animal friendly, from either bandits, crooks, or wild, predatory animals, such as wolves, raccoons, or snakes.
Her family name is a nod to legendary voice actress, Susan Silo, whom Alanna has worked with on Nickelodeon's El Tigre, and reminds Jordan of Ms. Silo, when she portrayed Mousey in Batman.
Overall, outside of her film, she is a one-time introduced character in the Glory Days, but the second most experimented in the series. She speaks in a Texan-Mexican accent, which makes her character authentic. She is also very fluent in her Spanish, too.
Other characters (in order of appearance):
Mr and Mrs. Ruesilo
The deceased parents of Blanche, Mrs. Ruesilo, especially is the kind mother based on Susan Silo. The father, Hugh Ruesilo, is based on Woody from Toy Story, but mannerisms based on John Wayne.
Basically, her adoptive American mother is New York American and her father is Irish-Texan. Blanche is their only daughter. They took her in by storm, one summer afternoon, since an unknown latin couple left the baby girl by the ranch doorstep. Not much else is known.
The three bandits
Based on the Dalton brothers, primarily from Hanna-Barbera's Laff a Lympics. They tried to steal her cattle for milk to feed their other three brothers, Stinky, Pinky and Finky - from The Good, The Bad, and Huckleberry Hound (not pictured).
Apart from being in the book at least once, then not again for the rest of the story. They are presumed to be arrested by the unseen sheriff, as Blanche is the enforcer by deputy. They are unnamed, but inspired by Dinky, Dirty and Dastardly.
Index: Stinky, Pinky and Finky were rumoured to appear in the aforementioned sequel, but due to trying to keep things under a low palette, Hanna-Barbera characters would be omitted in this production thereafter.
Dr. Feedles
The local doctor, based on Mr. Peebles in Magilla Gorilla. He only appears when he tells Blanche that her parents aren't well and are not able to run the farm anymore. He is not again for the rest of the story, either.
INDEX: Mr. Peebles, who the doctor is based on. However, his mannerisms are based on Gopher from Disney's Winnie-the-Pooh. Both characters were originally voiced by Howard Morris, although Peebles had never been voiced by Michael Gough, but by Billy West in one episode of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who.
Ectoré
Ectoré is the trusty white American stallion and adoptive baby brother horse. He is based on Pegasus from greek mythology, albeit without wings. He is the last of his kind, which makes him special to Blanche. He is very respectful and obedient, plus tame, and Blanche can understand his whinnies. His favourite food is carrots, in which he raids off wild rabbits in his spare time. He is, however, afraid of wolves, snakes and owls.
Overall, he is a very important sidekick and brother, which can explain he can sometimes bicker and disagree with his mistress sometimes.
Basically, a deputy in his own right, he is Jordan's prototype, less-anthropomorphic version of Quick Draw McGraw. His vocals are based on various Disney horses. But he is as just as intelligent as Dino, Scooby-Doo, Astro and Muttley, combined, so who needs a guard dog, I ask you?
The cattle
Consist of a mix of brown bulls and English patchblock dairy cattle, in which all of them are dimwitted, yet kind hearted dairy givers. They are prone to be very gullible, especially when the dairy cattle are stolen by wranglers or bandits, or when the bulls are merely, literally mauled and slaughtered by wolves as part of their predatory instincts.
Other than that there are many cattle that live in this ranch, not much is known about them. Basically, cow versions of Dino.
The wolves
A family of grey coyotes who try to maul and devour the cattle for their meal tickets, but are easily scared out of the ranch by Blanche. Other than that, they are very intelligent, and are native to these here parts.
Mayor McThiessen
Mayor McThiessen is the town's mayor of the town from across the ranch. She is an attractive, middle-aged woman, heavily based on Wonder Years star Danica McKellar, and partially named after Saved by the Bell star, Tiffani Thiessen.
